The Future of Transport

The Future of Transport

As we approach the new year, our thoughts have been on the future, and specifically, the future of transport. Due to Covid and Brexit, we’re seeing some huge changes to supply chains and working practices. So, this prompted us to consider what might lie ahead for the world of logistics in 2021 and beyond.

At GenRev, we’ve combined our experience with insights gained throughout 2020 to develop our upcoming Smart Delivery Box, which we’ll be launching next year. This is just one of the ways in which we’re responding to the increased demand in online shopping and efficient parcel delivery services. But some future changes could be even more far-reaching.

Helping businesses to save money

Most companies are keen to trim their running costs to ensure a safer ride through the ongoing financial turmoil. As a result, we anticipate an increased interest in Just In Time distribution services. This system cuts down on storage costs, requires fewer staff to maintain and eliminates obsolete parts, making it a highly efficient business model. We expect to see more businesses switching to this mode of working, as they recognise the financial benefits of Just In Time services.

Less traffic on the roads

With increasing numbers of people now working remotely, this has already resulted in much less traffic on our roads, which has had a positive knock-on effect on delivery times in general. Customers can expect faster turnaround on deliveries, with fewer chances of traffic disruptions causing delays.

Encouraging productivity

Our In Boot parts delivery service already gets spare and replacement parts to field service engineers before they start work, which encourages them to be more productive. By driving through the night, our drivers get time-critical parts to where they need to be without any fuss. And this is going to become increasingly important for businesses who want to thrive.

Self-driving vehicles and AI

Looking even further ahead, it’s clear that we’re heading towards a world of low-energy, self-driving vehicles. Driverless cars are already being tested out at UK sites, although we’re still some way from dispensing with the driver’s controls completely!

Artificial Intelligence systems are also going to become an increasingly important aspect of everyday life, and that will include supply chain management. As the Internet of Things becomes more widely adopted, we can expect to see intelligent supply chain management in real time, responding to peaks and troughs in demand as well as changing road conditions. This is going to lead to increased transparency throughout every stage of a parcel’s journey, which will generate better outcomes and enhanced customer satisfaction.

At GenRev, we’re continually evolving our offering to suit the changing world of transport and logistics. We carefully listen to our customers to ensure our smart delivery solutions always stay affordable and up to date.
